IMS Evolve was at the forefront of the IoT conversation at this year's event in Las Vegas

Following on from last October’s ‘Let the Transformation begin’ strapline, Dell EMC World 2017 focused on both the reality and sheer potential of Dell Technologies, represented by the simple and impactful concept - ‘Realize’. This theme encapsulated workforce transformation, IoT applications, future technologies and the realisation of the Dell EMC entity in what was to be their first event since the merger.

Held on 8-11 May, from the moment we stepped off the plane at McCarran airport, it was apparent that Dell EMC had truly taken over the city for that week. With advertising, signage, billboards and digital screens promoting the event at every opportunity between the airport and the Venetian Hotel, the magnitude of the event delivered a truly immersive experience for those attending – and it felt unmissable.

The IMS Evolve team had a jam-packed schedule, with our CCO, Jason Kay, having a prominent presence within most of the IoT sessions and discussions that took place. The first instalment was a ‘Keys to Successful IoT Implementations’ session, driven by Kevin Terwilliger (IoT Solutions Director at Dell). This session covered how to develop a business case to get an IoT project funded, the right architecture for the use case, and how to ensure an appropriate level of investment in securing the data. Emphasising the ‘Realize workforce transformation’ subject, Jason was invited to represent IMS Evolve in a panel session titled, ‘How the Internet of Things is Changing the Way We Work’. Alongside Jason on the panel was Kevin Terwilliger, Joyce Mullen (SVP/General Manager GLOBAL OEM and IOT Solutions at Dell) and Andy Rhodes (Vice President and General Manager IoT Commercial Solutions at Dell).

Our Client Partner, Steve Kirkbride and Marketing Manager, Jasmine Sampson, were on hand to demonstrate the IMS solution for the duration of the event in the Expo arena. As one half of the Cold Chain Solution aspect of the IoT area, IMS was positioned alongside Nokia – who were professing their Cold Chain Logistics solution – providing a comprehensive cold chain conversation for those that visited us at the stand. Feedback on our ability to deliver proven IoT solutions today was extremely positive.

Without doubt, the highlight of our week at Dell EMC World was the Keynote Speech on day two. Jeremy Burton (President, Products & Marketing at EMC) stepped in at the last minute for Jeff Clarke (VP Operations & Client Solutions at Dell) to deliver the 2nd keynote speech of the week. Focused on workforce transformation, the presentation - to a room of 12,000 industry experts, press and analysts - covered three innovative technologies: Nike’s use of a Dell design tablet, Daqri’s AR & VR tech, and finally: IMS Evolve’s IoT Cold Chain Solution. We were approached by Dell to work alongside them on the concept, wording and visuals for our segment of the keynote, which highlighted how our award winning IoT solution can improve customer experience, reduce waste, protect brands and deliver macroeconomic benefits around food waste and energy consumption. It was a defining moment seeing the IMS Evolve solution being promoted on a platform of that scale and at such a prominent industry event.

The majority of spare time the team did have was spent attending press, analyst and influencer events along with client meetings and cementing our internal partner relationships with peers and senior contacts at Dell. Of course, the team were in Las Vegas, and therefore the small amount of downtime they did have was inevitably spent experiencing the sights, sounds and magnificent surroundings of the city and all it had to offer.

It was a truly worthwhile trip for IMS Evolve, generating impactful conversations, elevating our partnership with Dell and accelerating our presence within the industry. The event certainly did not disappoint - so, let the planning for Dell EMC World 2018 commence!
